Do’s and Don’ts of Maintaining your Equipment

If properly cared for your equipment requires very little maintenance. To keep it in good working order here is some important Do’s and Don’ts:

· Keep Plugged In

Keep plugged-in. Inside your property always keep the power supply unit plugged directly into a power point and turned on. It will tevert to battery power if not plugged-in and this will quickly run down the battery which should be reserved for emergencies. You must keep the network termination device also known as the NTD plugged into the power supply unit as it can’t work without it and regularly check indicator lights on the power supply unit.

· Don’ts

  • Never user water or liquids to clean the equipment.
  • Never use an extension cord, double adaptor or power board to connect the power supply unit to mains power.
  • Never cover or paint any part of the equipment.
  • Never unplug the power supply unit or NTD unless you’re replacing the battery or your we advices you to do so.
  • Never unplug the fiber optic cable from either the NTD or the fiber wall outlet

· Check Before you Dig

Outside your property, remember to dial 1100 before you dig. That is check the location of underground cables before digging to avoid accidental damage. On the outside of your home or business you will have a promises connection device or PCD. This device connects you to the National Broadband Network. Regularly trim any overhanging branches and shrubs near the equipment.

Remember to keep your equipment plugged in, never clean it with liquids and always dial before you dig so you don’t damage the NBN cables.
