NETWORKING AND CONTENT DELIVERY

This is another development in technology that has gained wide acceptance and use in recent times. Although, it means different things to different people. What then is a content delivery network?

It is a globally distributed network of proxy servers deployed in multiple data centers.  Content delivery networks (CDN) are the transparent backbone of the Internet in charge of content delivery.  They deliver webpages and other Web content to a user based on the geographic locations of the user, the origin of the webpage and a content delivery server.

The way it works is that content owners such as media companies and e-commerce vendors pay Content Delivery Network operators to deliver their content to their end-users. In turn, a CDN pays ISPs, carriers, and network operators for hosting its servers in their data centers.

Content delivery networks are designed to solve the issue of latency, which is the annoying delay that occurs from the moment you request to load a web page to the moment its content actually appears onscreen.

Amazon CloudFront is a global content delivery network (CDN) service that accelerates delivery of your websites, APIs, video content or other web assets through CDN caching. It is a part of Amazon web services.
